Sump pumps that Work
Well, that certainly was a lot of rain. We saw a lot of tragic circumstances in the last month, but at least one of them was averted by a sump pump!! Yes, some sump pumps can do the job.
I got a phone call from my office manager one day to tell me that my customer had no power to their house, in the middle of that first 10 inch rainfall. And how did she know this?? The SUMP PUMP notification system called us!!!!
What it did, which we got in an email, was call the client’s home phone and got no response. Then it called my office and got no response, then it called the client’s home and got no response, then it called my office and got a response. I know this because it also sent an email with a report of it’s activity to me and the client.
I have that client’s cell phone number, so I called her. She had just left the house a few minutes before and was shocked when I told her her power was out. “How do you know, are you at the house?” “No” I responded “Your sump pump just called me!” She was very surprised, and elated that after all these years of worry she could relax a bit about her flooding, even in the worst rainfall in history, because of the system we put in.
While she did hurry home to check things out, she really didn’t have to, as she has 2 batteries that will run her 2 pumps for 12 hours or so, and the power was only off for a short period of time.
We also have a water powered backup pump that we’ve installed for several people. While I wouldn’t want to see the water bill, as it wastes a lot of water, in a real pinch it starts up on it’s own and pumps out using the house pressure.
You see, there are sump pumps that work. Most of you just don’t have one!
