It may be a good idea if it will work. You need to do a heat loss and assess the existing heat emitters to figure that out. If there isn't enough, it might make more sense to stick with steam and make it work the way it should by fixing the steam traps, etc. I don't know a lot about wood boilers, but it might be easier to get the water hot for hot water heat, as opposed to steam heat.
On the other hand, if you could turn the two pipe steam into a vapor vacuum system, you would be able to take advantage of a dying fire to continue making steam at lower temperatures, just as they did when boilers were mostly coal.

Great article. I own an 8 thousand sf school house with a 2 pipe steam system that has a failing boiler. I am considering going to hot water by wood.

A steam trap is an instrument utilized to eliminate water and non-condensable gases from steam lines. Steam traps serve three key responsibilities: maintaining a low level of steam consumption, getting rid of water as it forms, and eradicating air and non-condensable gases.

If you want to learn plumbing repair as a commercial trade, there are several things you can do. The first place to go is to your local community college, which will likely offer several courses on plumbing repair at a low cost. Community colleges often have information about apprenticeship programs.

Just converted WM SGO 6 Wayne Gas burner; noted boiler has pressuretrol, currently set below 1psi, was thinking of changing to vaporstat as that is what Richardson called for; do you think it's right move? What model did you get?

The last time I was able to get those wooden pointer type handles for the packless radiator valves was when I bought all they had at a used radiator place. You can use a modern radiator valve and it will work. You can also google packless radiator valves and find the modern equivalent, but they won't have the wooden ponter handles. (If that's what you have)/
I have taken apart packless valves and freed the working parts, greased them and made them function again, so that may be able to be done with frozen ones, but handles are a problem!
